Abdominal CT The diagnosis of abdominal symptoms in children is sometimes very difficult. The lack of detailed history and nebulous examination as well as confusing laboratory findings may require the addition of abdominal CT examination. Appendicitis presents in many different ways. It is a common condition in children and should be diagnosed in the early stages, if possible. The addition of CT has allowed us to make an accurate diagnosis and differentiate the various causes of abdominal symptoms in our pediatric population. This is a very rapid procedure but may require the use of contrast given by mouth as well as contrast via the intravenous route. The radiologist will determine the best method of performing this study with the least amount of radiation.
